The University of Texas at Dallas
University Seal. From the Office of the President

Jan. 28, 2025

Dear Comets,

Yesterday, as many of you know, the United States Office of Management and Budget (OMB) directed federal agencies to pause federal assistance programs, cooperative agreements and grants.

There are many questions and concerns surrounding this directive, and we want to assure you that we are working to assess its potential impact on UT Dallas. The Office of Research and Innovation has been in contact with campus researchers and will be the main point of contact on this issue.

Unless you are notified otherwise, we do not believe it is necessary to stop your work on already funded federal research activities.

Regarding student financial support, the U.S. Department of Education has said that the directive does not apply to federal student loans or Pell Grants. Even so, we will continue to monitor information regarding federal financial aid funding.

The OMB directive is broad and many of its implications are still unclear. Please know that we have a dedicated UTD team evaluating the directive, and we are working closely with the UT System and our federal relations contacts. As we better understand the scope of this directive and determine the appropriate steps, we will share that guidance with you.

Thank you for your dedication to UT Dallas, our research mission and our commitment to developing new scholars.

Sincerely,

Richard C. Benson, signature
